The Black Hawk County Health Department will promote optimal public health policy through education, advocacy, and effective regulatory action for the benefit of all citizens within its service area. Through ongoing assessment of public health conditions, the Department will work to protect community residents from disease and disability and through provider collaboration and service delivery, will strive to assure access to appropriate prevention and treatment.


Provide effectively and with distinction, the core functions of public health services: assessment, policy development and assurance. Promote health protection, education, and collaboration in service delivery to groups of people in all population settings from schools to work places, and from neighborhoods to regions. Maintain a public health organization that is respected by the public, community, professionals, and policy makers for its contribution to overall health status.
