BASICS-Pick a Better Snack

The School, Outreach and Clinics Division at the Black Hawk County Health Department has several outreach services aimed at promoting good health through exercise and nutrition. The BASICS/Pick a Better Snack program teaches nutrition in the classroom of Waterloo elementary schools in a fun and interesting manner to motivate children to pick a better snack of fruits and vegetables. In FY2011 the BASICS program held 694 classroom presentations. Key state partners include the Iowa Department of Public Health, Iowa Food Assistance, Iowa Department of Education-Team Nutrition, Iowa State University Extension, and Iowans Fit for Life and Iowa Women Infants Children (WIC.)
