POSITION, and Primary Responsibilities)
Applicant shall be expected to conduct computer aided drafting (CAD) utilizing “
” software. Responsibilities shall include general project plan development for Transportation projects detailing field surveyed data, compiling site plan details, surface modeling, basic geometrics on future projects, standard detail drawings, and as-built plan archives. Experience with Civil Design standards and Civil Engineering terminology preferred. Drafting duties will provide experience and exposure to Autodesk© Civil3D” and “Map3D” Autodesk products. Experience and knowledge of Civil application CAD packages preferred for this position. Experience with core Autocad® elements such as Dynamic Blocks, 3D objects and Tables are strongly desired. Applicants shall also be expected to utilize Autodesk© Map3D with Geographic Information System (GIS) data and feature/object data compilation during basic project development and plan generation. Sound knowledge of MS-Excel is expected, with additional MS-Access experience preferred.
Under direct field supervision, personnel will assist in Construction Observation as a Field Inspector assisting with field inspection of RCP/ RCB Culvert installation(s), Grading project inspection, and project activity status/safety reporting. This applicant may also gain fundamental experience with construction observation procedures on ACC resurfacing project(s), and/or with full grading/paving project(s) during this construction season. In addition, duties shall include plan development assistance with annual maintenance projects which consist of Subdrain Tile Installation, Guardrail Installation, Roadway/Pavement Markings (Painting), Crack Sealing projects, and Sealcoat maintenance. In addition, AutoCad drafting duties (as denoted above) shall primarily be expected from position throughout employment period.
SURVEYING & GIS DATA COLLECTION:
(PRIMARILY ONE POSITION)
Under direct field supervision, personnel will perform routine Real-Time (RTK) GPS Surveying conducting Construction Survey, Route/Control Surveys, Vertical Control Surveying, Public Land Corner Preservation/Monumentation, in addition to STATIC GPS surveying. Surveying shall also include both Topographic and Cross-Sectional Surveys for project development/design. Must demonstrate ability to understand Terrain / Surface Modeling to effectively and accurately locate physical aspects of Roadway and Bridge projects. Additional exposure in Boundary Surveying principals and Public Land corner’s should be expected, in conjunction with basic AutoCad® based project preparation and plan development duties described above. An introduction to utilization and applications of Total Stations and Automatic Levels is essential, with course work and ability to apply Coordinate Geometry and Trigonometric concepts. Field survey data collection utilizing TOPCON© GPS equipment will be expected, together with utilization of Iowa DOT’s RTN (Real-Time Network) for RTK GPS applications, in addition to conventional surveying using a TOPCON© 7000i imaging station. Applicant may also be expected to conduct GIS data acquisition for asset management utilizing a TRIMBLE© GeoXt w/ Pathfinder Office software, and/or with a GPS enabled digital camera.
Sample CAD project drawing(s) are HIGHLY encouraged for submittal to assist with applicant’s technical evaluation. Digitally archived file formats (DWG, DWF, DGN, PDF, etc.) are acceptable for evaluation of drawing experience record, and shall be presented on portable storage device, www HTTP site, or FTP accessible site.
In addition, a printed/plotted portfolio is also acceptable for evaluation.
Each applicant shall require the ability to Walk, Stand, Kneel, Pound, and Climb for long periods of time; and to effectively withstand adverse conditions of Cold, Wind, Rain, and Heat throughout employment period. Prospective employees MUST provide and maintain appropriate clothing to accommodate diverse weather conditions for personal comfort and safety.
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:
1. HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA
Completion of ONE year in Civil Engineering /Surveying Technology Program
and/or applicable experience as Engineering Tech. performing Surveying and
